Method #1

Just like you would market anything, you first need to find out where your potential customers hang out. Once you know where they are at you can market to them.

That’s why we started going to BNI meetings and business meetups. These are local gatherings of business owners who are gathered for the sole purpose to find out how to get more customers.

You can find these meetings in your town by going to BNI.com, Meetup.com, your local Chamber of Commerce, or searching phrases in Google like “Tampa Business Referral Group.”

Obviously, you would change out “Tampa” for whatever city you are in.

Here’s What Happens At These Meetings

All the business owners show up and first thing everyone does is pass around their business cards.

This is the first thing they do wrong!

There’s no picture of the person and no information about what makes them special over anybody else in their line of work.

I only keep these things because for me a bad business card is an awesome lead source. It means they suck at marketing and they need me BAD!

This is what I do differently

First thing I do when I arrive is pass out copies of my book. This elevates me to instant expert status in the room.

I’m now the dude who just showed up with his own book!

Books aren’t like business cards. You can’t stuff a book in your wallet and forget about it. Almost no one throws a book away either.
